review: pitch perfect 2 & into the woods

It must be reviewing season, because i’m at it again!

This time i have been OBSESSED with both of these films (this review may be my most positive one yet!)

Pitch Perfect 2

Synopsis: “It’s been three years since the Barden Bellas (Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson) became the first all-female group to win a national title. All seems well until a botched Lincoln Center performance for the president leads to a scandal that strips them of their performing duties, causing internal tension and strife. With the world championships on the horizon in Copenhagen, Denmark, the women must get their act together for their one and only shot at redemption.”

Verdict 3/5: The film is easy watching and funny in places. It does fall down compared to it’s predecessor, but if you want a fun, light hearted film with some catchy mash up songs (and a cameo from Snoop Dogg) then what more could you ask for? Best song: Das Sound Machine  – Uprising/Tsunami (Car Show)

Into The Woods

Synopsis:“As the result of the curse of a once-beautiful witch (Meryl Streep), a baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) are childless. Three days before the rise of a blue moon, they venture into the forest to find the ingredients that will reverse the spell and restore the witch’s beauty: a milk-white cow, hair as yellow as corn, a blood-red cape, and a slipper of gold. During their journey, they meet Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack, each one on a quest to fulfill a wish.”

Verdict 4/5: The winner out of these two musicals (and more of a theatre style musical – as it is based on a musical!). I have had the sound track on repeat ever since i saw this on DVD. Meryl Streep places a fantastic (and gorgeous) Witch, while Anna Kendrick brings an interesting side to Cinderella – James Cordon also plays and sings a fantastic part! The film should have stopped when Cinderella gets married (from a film view, not necessarily a theatre production view) – as it seems to drag from here on! Best Songs: Meryl Streep – Last Midnight & Into The Woods Cast – Prologue (Into The Woods).
