review: mockingjay – part 2

And the rebellion comes to an end.

This past week saw the release of The Hunger Games – Mockingjay Part 2, and as you probably know by now I love a film franchise. The series started in 2012 with The Hunger Games, followed by the 2013 release of Catching Fire and 2014’s Mockingjay Part 1.

Synopsis: Realizing the stakes are no longer just for survival, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) teams up with her closest friends, including Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and Finnick for the ultimate mission. Together, they leave District 13 to liberate the citizens of war-torn Panem and assassinate President Snow, who’s obsessed with destroying Katniss. What lies ahead are mortal traps, dangerous enemies and moral choices that will ultimately determine the future of millions. ”

Verdict 3.5/5: A action packed finale to The Hunger Games franchise which falls short of it’s predecessors. Although packed with intriguing action filled scenes, inventive mind games and plot twists, the film is trapped by the original material. A rounded ending is not always enough, especially when that ending raises more questions about it’s universe and characters.  Worth the watch (if anything to finish the franchise) but ends without the bang that we needed after 4 films. Kudos to the acting of Jennifer Lawrence, Donald Sutherland and Julianne More who do help bring the film and characters to life.
